Overstrand Municipality is calling on Hermanus residents to use water wisely and sparingly, as the diminishing levels of the De Bos dam is a cause of concern.

The De Bos Dam level was at 38.1% by end April 2020, compared to 41.5% by end April 2019 and 38.8% by end April 2018.

Hermanus had 14.5 mm of rain during April 2020, which made a total of 133.4 mm for 2020 to date, compared to the long-term average of 144.1 mm for the period January to April.

The average daily water consumption in Hermanus during April 2020 was 10.52 million litres per day, compared to 10.89 million litres per day during April 2019, i.e. the consumption in April 2020 was 3.4 % lower than the comparable month in 2019.

Residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 must be in self-isolation and the guidelines provided by the national Department must be followed to protect essential workers and anyone else who may come into contact with domestic (household) waste.

This notice also serves to persons in self-quarantine.

Those moving should do so between 7 May and 7 June 2020. But remember, travel across provincial, metropolitan, or district boundaries will require a permit from the police.

STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF COGTA ON THE AMMENDMENT OF DIRECTIONS FOR ONCE OFF MOVEMENT OF GOODS AND PERSONS

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, designated under section 3 of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002) has in terms of section 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 issued and gazetted a set of amendments of the directions to address, prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa.

All traffic departments are currently closed and we have therefore received several queries about renewal of driver and vehicle licences.

Rest assured that drivers’ licences and car discs that expire during this time will remain valid until the end of the lockdown, with a grace period of renewal within 30 days from the end of the lockdown.

The good news is that the National Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, announced that licensing and testing centres will open during June 2020. The exact date of opening has not been announced.

Once open, safety measures and protocols governing the observation of social distancing, sanitasation and wearing of masks will be observed.
