What is COVID-19?

A respiratory illness similar to flu (cough, fever, fatigue & aching body/muscles). More commonly than flu, it can become severe causing viral pneumonia (difficulty breathing).

4 out of 5 people will have a mild illness and recover without treatment. The elderly and those with underlying health conditions have increased risk of severe illness. Cases in children are rare.

How does it spread?

You can pick up coronavirus from:

• Touching an infected surface or object. The virus can enter your body when you touch your nose, mouth and eyes.
• Very close contact (1-2 metres) with a sick patient.

Overstrand Municipality is promoting SOCIAL DISTANCING in an effort to slow down the spread of the virus in our community as much as possible. This is a conscious effort to reduce contact between people to slow down the spread of the virus.

The situation is being assessed on a daily basis and is subject to frequent and rapid change.

Overstrand has no confirmed cases of the Covid-19 virus infection so far.

Residents should take charge of their own safety. Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or cough into the crook of your arm, wash your hands thoroughly and frequently, and call your healthcare provider for advice if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 including a fever, cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty with breathing.

As COVID-19, also called the Coronavirus, spreads all over South Africa and the World Health Organisation declaring the virus a pandemic, it has become imperative that you are kept informed with developments and take steps to combat the spread of the disease.

A few measures and controls were introduced by President Cyril Ramaphosa, and as a community we need to stand together to do everything possible to avoid spreading the Coronavirus and putting further strain on SA’s health system.

COMMUNITY HALLS AND SPORT FACILITIES:

• All bookings of events and gatherings which is considered to exceed 100 people in attendance is cancelled, with reimbursement

Onrus has been targeted by copper thieves and several incidents occurred where copper taps and fittings were stolen from private properties.

It is believed thieves steal taps to sell as scrap metal.

Residents urged to assist the Municipality by reporting any water leaks, burst pipes, illegal connections, blocked sewer drains, water supply interruptions and any other water-related issues to the different administrations during office hours (07:45 – 16:30) at the following numbers:
