Coronavirus community SCREENING continues today in the following areas: Hangklip-Kleinmond, Hermanus, Stanford and Gansbaai.

Screening will be conducted door-to-door by trained field workers in these areas using simple verbal questions to identify people who may require testing.

Health workers will ask health questions aimed at screening for symptoms (a sore throat, a cough or fever).

Screening will either be done via community health workers visiting your home, or mobile units in your area (e.g. gazebos).

Our fieldworkers will have ID tags and identifiable clothing. We ask the public to please allow our workers to screen them.

Testing will ONLY be done if the questions indicate that you require a further test.

Overstrand Municipity's solid waste teams are dealing with a massive increase in illegal dumping in public places as people use their lock down time to clean out their homes.

If you see anyone making themselves guilty of illegal dumping, please report it immediately to Overstrand Law Enforcement general complaints (Tel: 028 313 8996) or the 24-hour control room (Tel: 028 313 8111).

Provide as much information as you can, like the physical address, registration number/colour of the vehicle and type of waste.

The effects of COVID-19 are being felt across the length and breadth of South Africa.   The national lockdown, while necessary to curb the spread of the virus, is having a devastating impact on the economy of the Overstrand.  As we enter the fourth week of lockdown many self-employed people and casual workers are struggling to make ends meet and small businesses are wondering whether they will be able to survive.

The Overstrand Council implemented a number of measures to assist businesses and residents during this period, these include the deferment of payment of Municipal accounts for April and May for those who find themselves financially strapped at this time.  Businesses may apply to pay these accounts over six months and individuals over a maximum of twelve months.
