Law Enforcement officers from the Overstrand K9 unit visited Generations School in Hermanus last week.

Handler Cadin Leibrandt and Malinois patrol dog partner, Wimba, were eager to show off their skills to detect drugs and how to find explosives.

K9-Inspector Lance Mara spoke to the children about the dangers of drug abuse and not taking sweets from strangers.

The 3-6 phase also learned how K9s are trained to do their work within the Protection Services Directorate.

On 28 February 2022, Overstrand Executive Mayor Dr. Annelie Rabie, will give feedback on her first 100 days in office.

The meeting will be held in the Hermanus Municipal Auditorium and will start at 18:30 till 19:30. Light finger snacks will be served from 17:30 to allow attendees to register and screen for Covid.

The 100-day report will give feedback on the 3 Cs of immediate strategic interventions and include Communication, Crime Prevention & Law Enforcement and Cost and Ease of doing business with Overstrand.

Dr. Annelie Rabie, Executive Mayor of Overstrand Municipality, Cllr. Lindile Ntsabo, Deputy Executive Mayor and Portfolio Head of Protection Services and Crime Prevention, and Neville Michaels, Director of Protection Services,  wish to welcome the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to the Overstrand.

Mayor Rabie welcomed Lt-Col Adriaan Lotriet, SANDF staff officer for operations, and expressed appreciation that an operation to ensure that illegal harvesting of the marine resource does not continue unabated, will be put into effect within the next few days.

For more than 20 years the illegal harvesting has been a serious breach of the safety of many people living along the coastline

The Department of Home Affairs will be hosting a community outreach programme to assist residents from the Overstrand with the registration of births and applying and collecting of ID documents.

Home Affairs and other government related services will be available from 10:00 – 18:00, at the following venues:

•    21 and 22 February: Moffat Hall, Mount Pleasant
