On 27 January 2022, Overstrand Municipality in collaboration with Western Cape Government via its Provincial Treasury Department awarded bursaries to six beneficiaries from Overstrand.

Bursaries are awarded within fields relating to local government, in particular the fields finance, economics, accounting, supply chain management, internal audit, risk management and infrastructure.

The four students who received financial aid in the previous year, qualified to apply again for a bursary as continuing students. They are Mia Burgess (Gansbaai), Renaldo Dickson (Stanford), Liam Africa (Hawston) and Kyle Philander (Mount Pleasant).

The two new beneficiaries who have been awarded bursaries are Xanti Mgoqi and Ayakha Kamana, both from Zwelihle.

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, Mayoral Committee members (executive councillors), the Municipal Manager and Top Management team are going to resume the First Thursday meetings after they were cancelled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The 'first' First Thursday meetings will take place on 3 February at the Hermanus Municipal Auditorium from 17:00 - 19:00.

Residents will have the opportunity to engage with the Mayor and her team one-on-one, giving the public direct contact for dialogue on how the municipality can improve services as well as how the executive team can become more responsive to the needs of the communities that we serve.

Draft Annual Report tabled and available for public comment

The Annual Report of Overstrand Municipality for the 2020/21 financial year was tabled at the Overstrand Municipal Council meeting held on 26 January 2022.

The annual report is published yearly to provide residents information on the Municipality’s service delivery and financial performance over the past financial year. 

Among the highlights listed in the Annual Report include the retaining of a clean audit for 9th consecutive financial year. The quality of potable water exceeded the target of 95% (actual 98.83%); 1238 temporary job opportunities were created through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and 100% of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) were spent.

On Fridays, the Hermanus Auditorium will be open from 09:00 - 12:00.
