On Wednesday morning, 30 March 2022, Law Enforcement Officers from the Task Team and K9 Unit stopped a car during a routine patrol near Honingklip on the R43 in the Kleinmond area.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered drugs in the boot of the car.

5 456 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of half a million rand were hidden in a plastic container.

Their car and the drugs were confiscated and taken to the Caledon Police Station. Two suspects were arrested.

When selling your property, a rates clearance certificate is one of the documents needed by the conveyancing attorney to lodge the transfer at the Deeds Office.

Applications for rates clearance certificates are handled by a conveyancer (attorney) and never by the seller.

Overstrand Municipality processes up to 350 clearance certificates in any given month. It could take up to 10 days from the time the Municipality receives your application, for the outstanding figures to be issued. If the outstanding monies are paid immediately, the clearance certificate could be issued within the next following 10 days.

Municipal Tariff Guideline Increase

The Draft Budget 2022/23 has been tabled in Council this week communicating an indicative percentage increase of ESKOM bulk tariffs charged to municipalities applicable on municipal consumers from 1 July 2022 for the electricity basket at 10,33%.

However, with the publication of the MUNICIPAL TARIFF GUIDELINE INCREASE, BENCHMARKS AND PROPOSED TIMELINES FOR MUNICIPAL TARIFF APPROVAL PROCESS FOR THE 2022/23 FINANCIAL YEAR by the National Energy Regulator South Africa late on 30 March 2022, which proposes an average of 7,47% the municipality will review its proposed electricity tariffs in accordance with the published consultation papers once the percentage increase has been finalised.

At a council meeting held, 30 March 2022, the Executive Mayor, Ald Annelie Rabie, delivered a pro-poor budget speech, quoting from Dave Ramsey, Mayor, said , “a budget is telling your money where to go, instead of wondering where it went”

Overstrand Libraries, in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, are looking for tech savvy young people between the ages of 18 -25 to join the YearBeyond Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Cadet programme at our libraries in Greater Hermanus, Hangklip-Kleinmond and Gansbaai/Stanford.

This is a 6-month contract with the possibility to be extended by 3 months.
