The Annual Aerobics Marathon, 5km & Family Walk will take place at Qhayiya Secondary School in Zwelihle on Saturday, 4 December 2021 from 09:00.

Top instructors from Eastern Cape, Cape Town, Helderstroom and Overstrand will be sharing the stage to guide participants to flex and stretch their muscles.

Overstrand Municipality's Sports & Recreation Manager, Ayanda Stali, says activities will begin with warming up and stretching, followed by a 5Km fun run/walk and aerobics, including Hi-Lo; Cutter Box; Steppers; Functional and Last man and last female standing!

Entry forms are available from 10 - 25 November 2021 at Overstrand Municipality's housing offices, at community centres and some schools.

Overstrand Municipality is known for the smooth functioning of its ward committee system, but this system can only be maintained and even be improved if the community are involved in the election and functioning of ward committee members.

The Ward Committee elections will take place after the Local Government Elections on 1 November 2021 in each of the 14 wards.

Ward committees are regarded as the vehicle to promote good governance at local government level by being involved in planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation of programmes and projects.

The Hermanus Night Shelter in Mount Pleasant recently received a welcome boost of R400 000 that will go towards adding the finishing touches to this safe house before it opens its doors.

This generous donation was made possible by the Overberg District Municipality via the Joint District and Metro Approach (JDMA) which is co-ordinated by the Department of Local Government in the Western Cape. Underpinned by the principles of co-planning, co-budgeting and co-implementation, the JDMA came about as a result of collaboration between national government, provincial government, municipalities, NGOs and the private sector with a view to improving and changing the lives and living conditions of people.

Overstrand residents currently receiving or who may qualify to receive an indigent grant are called upon to verify their information before 31 December 2021.

As we are aware that current subsidy holders may have received the subsidy in contravention of the approved Indigent Policy, we want to create an opportunity where subsidy holders can come forward and voluntarily declare this without being penalised.

One of the conditions of the Policy is that residents who are owners of more than one property, or don’t reside on the property on which the subsidy has been approved, may have to repay the subsidy received, to the Municipality.
