During a virtual Council meeting held on Wednesday afternoon, 13 October 2021, Council approved the appointment of members for an Ombud Committee in terms of sections 33 and 79 of the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act 117 of 1998.

The committee will be chaired by the Speaker of Council and two non-executive councillors representing the ruling party and the official opposition.

The objective of the Ombud Committee is to investigate complaints from members of the public referred to it by the Executive Mayor and to make a recommendation to Council.  This will ensure that the Municipality is responsive and accountable while ensuring Council to exercise its oversight responsibilities.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has in terms of Section 2A of the Public Holidays Act of 1994 declared Monday 1 November 2021 – the date for local government elections - as a public holiday throughout the country.

The President calls on all registered voters to use the opportunity of the public holiday to exercise their democratic right and civic duty by voting in this election that empowers citizens to elect new leadership and influence service delivery where they live.

Voters are reminded as well that they will only be able to cast their votes at the polling stations in wards where they are registered. In the event that voters may consider travel, they will not be able to transfer their votes to voting stations away from their designated wards.

Fernkloof, Kleinmond and Rooiels Nature Reserves, no longer allow plastic balloons on to its premises and picnic spots.

The decision was made to protect the wildlife and environment after more and more visitors used balloons in the reserves to celebrate special occasions such as birthday parties, weddings and baby showers.

While balloons may add fun to a celebration, they've also become known for wreaking havoc on the birds and animals. As the saying goes, what goes up must come down. And when balloons come down, they don't find their way into a nearby rubbish bin.  They easily drift away across the ocean.
