Overstrand Executive Mayor Annalie Rabie stated her absolute delight with the 9th consecutive clean audit for the 2020/21 financial year for the municipality and expressed her sincere appreciation towards the administration for all the hard work and commitment in reaching this milestone.

Dr. Rabie also encouraged the staff to maintain high standards and furthermore, to continue the hard work in striving towards achieving another clean audit next year to reach the perfect 10.

The audit outcome of a municipality is supported by the assurance provided by the management of the municipality as well as the roleplayers charged with governance.

Overstrand Municipality welcomed the South African Defence Force (SADF) officer cadet corps to its shores, today, 3 December 2021, at the old harbour. Attending the ceremony were the Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Lindile Ntsabo, MAYCO member for Community Services, and Cllr Ronald Nutt, who both accompanied the students to visit the community of Mount Pleasant.

Members of the group identified a soup kitchen in Mount Pleasant and donated food parcels as part of their contribution the community.

The SADF host this event annually at the end of each academic year.  The students of the Military Academy at Saldanha embark on an endurance journey not only to raise funds for Stellenbosch University's community service organization, but also to acquire the skills in pursuit of their careers as professional soldiers of the SA National Army.

Overstrand’s 2021/2022 Blue Flag season commenced officially on Wednesday, 1 December 2021 when Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, hoisted the flag on Grotto Beach.

The event was well attended and other guests included the Deputy Executive Mayor Cllr Lindile Ntsabo, Mayco members, councillors, members of the public and senior officials of the Overstrand Municipality.

In addition to Grotto Beach, other beaches with Blue Flag status in Overstrand are Hawston, Kleinmond and Castle Beach. At Onrus beach, Blue Flag was raised for the first time.

Blue Flag-status is a well-respected international award signifying that a beach is not only safe and beautiful, but that it is also managed in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner.

At the Provincial Public Participation Forum hosted in Mosselbay, today, 3 December 2021, Overstrand Municipality was announced to be the 1st Municipality in the Country to establish the new generation of Ward Committees, post the 2021 elections.

Ward Committee Elections took place from the 15 until 18 November 2021.

The elections were conducted in 21 venues located within the demarcated 14 wards of the Municipality. A number of 5,956 registered voters (IEC’s voters roll) resident in the 14 wards participated in the Ward committee.

The average turnout per ward was 426 voters.

The turnout of voters for the elections in relation to the number of registered voters on the IEC’s Voters roll (59,979 voters) were 10%.

Municipal offices, including libraries, will be closed from 13:00 on Friday 24 December 2021 and Friday 31 December 2021 and respectively re-open at 07:45 on Tuesday, 28 December 2021 and Monday, 3 January 2022.

Essential services will continue to operate as normal. In the case of any emergency, contact our 24-hour Control Room at 028 313 8000/8111.

Although Council will not be in recess during the December holiday period, the Executive Mayor, in consultation with the Municipal Manager, will attend to all urgent matters and emergencies, with the exception of those matters reserved by law for the full Council.

A Special Council Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 26 January 2022, asper the 2022 meeting schedule already distributed.
