A joint operation on 30 September 2021 between the Overstrand Municipality's K9 and Task Team and SAPS, has led to the arrest of 12 wanted persons. They were arrested in the Gansbaai area for various offences and/or crimes.

In Vermont, a motorcyclist was arrested for being in possession of cocaine. The unroadworthy motorbike was impounded.

A 41-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of fake R200 bank notes.

He was arrested after his reckless driving attracted the attention of police and law enforcement officers at a roadblock in Kleinmond. They also found 264 small zip lock bags and one large bag of dagga in his possession. All goods and the vehicle were handed in a the Kleinmond Police Station.

It is our considered opinion that not all residents voice their opinions on social media platforms. 

Overstrand Municipality has also received a number of letters of gratitude supporting the decision to euthanise BBM1. Reasons given (stated on the emails), were that he caused hundreds of thousands of rand in damage, kept people hostage in their own homes and was a big danger to small children, women and pets leaving them scared and traumatised after raiding a home.

According to these victims of BBM1, they are too scared to post their relieve on social media as they are bullied and harassed by some baboon activists. One person said: "I know for a fact that I am talking on behalf of a lot of residents, some of whom work offshore in Europe who have been on the receiving end of unpleasant remarks.

A local author from Hermanus, Dr Eleanor Damon, has paid it forward by donating two of her books to the Hermanus Library.

The books are Teaching: A noble calling and Woorde wat vry maak - kortverhale van hoop (short stories of hope). Library assistant, Deidré April (right), is pictured here with the former teacher.

 

Overstrand Municipality’s Emergency Control Room received an emergency call to help free a trapped dog and fire fighters in Stanford responded.

Lesley Beake reported that her dog, Milly, had fallen into a sinkhole which had suddenly appeared under a Plane tree on their property. “We have subsequently found that there had been a duck-pond that was filled in many years before we bought the property. Milly’s legs were entangled in the tree roots and she was stuck,” she explained.

It took fire fighters Craig Niemand and Jamé Moos and other friends and helpers about one-and-a-half hours to free the very elderly dog.
