The Overstrand Municipal Council approved the policy for Tiny Houses as an additional option to assist the housing needs of a growing community.

Mayco Member of Investment and Infrastructure, Councillor Clinton Lerm, said Overstrand is one of the first municipalities in South Africa to re-think how housing challenges can be addressed. By adopting this policy, we lead the way forward as solution to the housing challenges.

A tiny house complies with the definition of a residential dwelling house but on a smaller than usual scale - a footprint of less than 27m² to be precise.

The Overstrand Municipality is delighted to announce that after a number of successful negotiations with stakeholders in the industry, the first cruise liner will drop anchor in Walker Bay in December 2022.

Passengers will come ashore for day excursions including biking, shark cage diving, wine tasting and generally exploring our beautiful towns.

This is a first for Overstrand and particularly Hermanus and other cruise line stops will include Hermanus in their itinerary in future. 

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, expressed her excitement and indicated that this will provide a much needed economic boost to the area.

The Gansbaai motor vehicle and registration (MVR) department is open and operational from their new office space, inside the Municipal Building in Gansbaai.

Business hours are Mondays - Fridays from 08:00 - 15:15, with a lunch break between 13:00 - 13:45.

The traffic offices in Hermanus will be open Mondays - Fridays from 08:00 - 15:15 and two Saturday mornings per month from 08:30 - 12:00.

The traffic offices in Kleinmond will be open Mondays - Fridays from 08:00 - 15:15, with a lunch break between 13:00 - 13:45

 

The Department of Labour's Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) will be visiting the Overstrand on the following dates:

HERMANUS:
• 20 & 21 September 2022 at Overstrand Thusong Centre in Hawston

GANSBAAI
• 16 September, 12 October, 17 November and 9 December 2022 at the Silwerjare Dienssentrum in Gousblom Street, Blompark Gansbaai

KLEINMOND
• 9 September, 6 October, 10 November and 6 December 2022 at the Kleinmond Town Hall

Residents in declared problem baboon areas of Overstrand such as Kleinmond, Betty’s Bay, Rooiels, Pringle Bay and Voëlklip have been pleading with the Municipality to distribute more baboon proof bins in public open spaces, picnic areas and at beaches along the coast.

Waste is a huge attractant for baboons who forage in these areas for food, and we must all work together towards effective baboon management by ensuring refuse is managed optimally.

Implementing efficient baboon management protocols before baboon raids and invasions becomes the norm, is the answer to manage the baboon/human interface effectively in these areas. Dealing responsibly with waste is one of the simple ways we can contribute to the health and well-being of wildlife and our own families.
