The World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD) will host a series of mini festivals in South Africa from 1 to 11 October to celebrate 40 years of existence.

Conceived in 1982 by British musician and rock star Peter Gabriel, WOMAD has since brought the sights, sounds and rhythms of the world to over 30 countries and an audience of millions – and Cape Town, Hermanus, Johannesburg and Soweto are next on the itinerary for the event’s 40-year celebration. The WOMAD South African Safari will kick off on 1 October 2022 at the V&A Waterfront.

The learners were asked to adopt the trees and to make sure that the trees are watered and cared for after which they were all asked to plant a tree which was done with loads of enthusiasm.

It is great to see the Overstrand Library’s calendar of in-person events returned to normal after the pandemic drastically altered activities for, especially, school children.

On Tuesday, 20 September 2022, the Hermanus Library hosted a crochet class for beginners for the Hermanus Home-schoolers.

Crocheting and knitting are both practical life activities to help develop concentration and fine-motor co-ordination - even if you've never held a hook before or don't know a slip knot from a single crochet or double crochet stitch.

In addition to finding books, libraries are a great place for people to get connected again, especially those with same-age children or similar hobbies.

The Municipality has implemented the following mitigation measures at this stage:

1.    Most of the critical water and wastewater installations are equipped with standby generators, which are supplied with diesel continuously and are being monitored to ensure seamless switchovers as far as possible.
2.    Mobile generators are deployed at a few other sensitive water and wastewater installations.
