September is Tourism and Heritage Month and Overstrand will be celebrating with a full calendar of events including the Tourism Indaba which will be opened on Wednesday 6 September 2023 by Western Cape Minister of Agriculture Dr Ivan Meyer.

Minister Meyer will be addressing agri tourism which is of particular importance to our region that boasts vineyards, apple orchards, dairy farms, aqua culture and fynbos grown for the export market. The Thursday Indaba programme will address marketing, travel source markets, mitigation of seasonality, sustainable tourism and travel trends. The Department of Tourism, Tourism Grading Council of South Africa as well as Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism.

The next UIF visit is scheduled to take place on 14 and 15 September 2023 at the Overstrand Thusong Centre in Hawston.

On 18 and 19 September the Department of Labour will be at Spaces for Sport in Gansbaai.

On 12 September they will visit Kleinmond at the Kleinmond Town Hall.

Given that the last day of Overstrand Municipality’s Tourism Indaba happens to fall on the first Thursday in September, Mayor Rabie requested that the scheduled First Thursday event in Hermanus be postponed by a week.

The First Thursday initiative has become a fantastic opportunity for residents to engage with the Mayor and her team on how to improve municipal service delivery in their respective areas. No appointment is needed as the sessions will be conducted on a first come, first served basis.

We are looking forward meeting you one-on-one at the Municipal Banquet Hall in Hermanus on 14 September 2023 from 17:00 – 19:00.

 

Pressure loggers will be installed on the water network in De Kelders to determine the average pressure in the system during the first week of September.

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, said this decision was prompted after several residents in the De Kelders suburb experienced water losses due to pipe breaks on their properties.

The service provider who was appointed to install the pressure loggers, will generate a report over a two-week period and present their findings to the complainants in October to the relevant community members as requested.  The projected cost of this exercise is R159 431 VAT exclusive
