The pedestrian traffic light next to Voëlklip OK Minimark has been out of order for months and Overstrand Municipality apologises for the inconvenience this is causing road users in the area.

Mount Pleasant Library hosted a poetry reading on Thursday, 21 September 2023 in celebration of hope, humanity and the joy of living.

The morning was a combination of poetry reading and conversation with Julie Daniels, an author from Cape Town.

Her two books, Gediggies van die Kaap, are a compilation of tongue-in-cheek poetry about life on the Cape Flats. The books were inspired by the death of her husband in 2020 and her own battle with Covid on a ventilator in the ICU.

Daniels encouraged library members to put their stories down on paper and said you will start and learn along the way. She added: “We’ve all experienced suffering and you may have lingering feelings of anger, sadness or grief from past events that you haven’t come to terms with. Getting them down on paper helps you to make sense of them and find meaning in them.”

She said she is willing to do a creative writing workshop in the area, should there be enough interest.

In addition to book readings, the Mount Pleasant Library regularly offers holiday activities for kids as well.
