The following notice has been issued by the Department of Transport and Public Works on 28 March 2023 regarding the road closures and stop-go's of the R44 Clarence Drive for period starting 28 March 2023 until further notice.

Works on the affected stretch of road has progressed very well. A full closure is no longer required.

The stop-and-go will remain in place until the project is fully complete.

The objective of this project is to carry out emergency damage repair to the R44 between the Gordon’s Bay and Rooi-Els, between km 53,5 and km 56,5. The emergency works were triggered by heavy rains experienced on 11 and 12 December 2022. The project is scheduled to be completed by 23 April 2023.

Mayor Annelie Rabie and her team will continue the First Thursday’s initiative in Hermanus on 6 April 2023.

Join them in the Hermanus Municipal Banqueting Hall from 17:00 - 19:00.

It is a golden opportunity for residents to engage with both the political and administrative leadership of the municipality and residents are encouraged to attend the event.

It is open to everyone and no appointments are required.

A controlled burn on 80 hectares of Blessberg in Betty’s Bay, is planned for the first week of April, weather depending.

This burn will be both a fuel load reduction and ecological burn and will be first of the controlled burns for the 2023 burn season.

Overstrand Municipality along with Cape Nature, Overberg District Municipality and Greater Overberg Fire Protection Association (goFPA) will conduct the burn. They will also do search and rescue operations in the days leading up to the burn to remove tortoises, chameleons and other animals out of harm’s way.

The Municipality asks members of the pubic to please avoid this area during the burn.
