Following questions and concerns from residents living in Sandbaai, it seems that there is a misunderstanding with regards to the installation of fibre in this neighbourhood.

Separate applications were received for installation of fibre in Sandbaai North and South - below and above End Street.

Wayleave applications are processed on a first come first served basis, based on the Wayleave Process and Standards of the Overstrand Municipality.

The two parties involved in the installation of fibre in Sandbaai (Lightstruck and Sonic), signed and accepted the Master Wayleave Agreement.

Overstrand Municipality is aware of the tap water that is brown or yellowish in some areas of Hermanus. The most severely affected areas are Zwelihle, Eastcliff, Westcliff and Northcliff.

Water samples were taken and the only issue found, is a high colour level in the drinking water. Colour is caused by plant matter from the Fynbos that dissolves in the raw water.

THE WATER IS SAFE FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION, and the water is still disinfected.

The issue has been resolved and the colour level at the reservoirs is already within the aesthetic standard.  The colour of water in the reticulation network should stabilise within a day or two.

The Municipality will continue to monitor the situation.
