Over the last few decades, scientists noticed changes in our atmosphere.

There was a sharp increase of certain gasses trapped in the earth’s atmosphere and it was contributing to some of the worst natural disasters that were happening across the globe. The effect, which today contributes to an estimated 90% of the world’s natural disasters, became known as climate change.

Human Wildlife Solutions (HWS), who manages the Baboon Programme in towns in the Overstrand, will be attempting to capture and collar a male baboon of the Betty’s Bay Baboon troop from Wednesday, 24 March 2021.

We ask the community to please allow HWS to implement their task without interference from the public.
Overstrand officials and members of the Betty’s Bay Baboon Liaison Group will be present during capturing to monitor the process.

This is part of the initiation phase for the Betty’s Bay Baboon Management Programme as conversed with the Western Baboon Liaison Group, which includes the community of Betty’s Bay.

An ecological fuel-reduction prescribed burn on the south eastern section of the Hermanus Golf Course (Flat Street wetlands), is planned for today, 24 March 2021, at the Hermanus Golf Club.

“Please do not be alarmed by smoke in that area," said Overstrand Fire Chief Lester Smith.

This burn will commence at 09:00 and should be completed by 13:00 whereafter mop up operations will continue as required. The planned prescribed burn will be managed by the Enviro Wildfire Services with the assistance of the landowner. Overstrand Municipality Fire Department will monitor.

The Department of Education has extended the registration deadline to 31 March 2021 for those who want a second chance to write their matric exams.

“This opportunity is for those learners who had previously failed their matric or perhaps only need to write one or two subjects to quality for their matric.

Learners who want to improve their results are welcome to register as well,” the department said in a statement.

More information on the programme can be found on the DBE website www.education.gov.za or from the district education offices.

2. Attach certified copies of ID or passport (foreign candidate) proof of address, highest qualification (example- grade 9 report)

A well-attended Overstrand Municipal Advisory Forum (OMAF) meeting on Wednesday evening, 10 March 2021, shared the preliminary draft budget for 2021/22 , the adjustment budget for 2020/21 and a high level feedback on the IDP delivery for the past three financial years (2017/18 – 2019/20).

The 4th and final review (2021/22) of the current 5-year Integrated Development Plan (IDP) is currently in process.

Kindly take note that the draft IDP review, as well as the draft budget for the financial year of 2021/22 will be open for public comment during April 2021. The documents will be available after it has served before Council at the end of March.
