Overstrand Municipality received an enquiry from Ward 3 regarding parking control in Hermanus CBD.

The allegation was made that currently there is no parking available in the CBD after 09:00. It was also stated that this is very frustrating for potential customers, who are sorely needed, to stimulate commerce in the CBD.

According to Ward 3 Councillor, Ald Kari Brice, it worked well in the past when the parking tariff was enforced as it encouraged people to park, do business and move on; thus opening parking spaces for the next customers. This practice was temporarily suspended early in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

There is a supply constraint for the coming weeks, largely due to the delay in supply of J&J vaccines.

This means that even though the Department has scaled up vaccination sites, they will not be able to vaccinate as many people as they would like.Tthis may also impact the number of sites activated.

The Department of Health will thus prioritise persons who have received their second SMS indicating their appointment slot at a vaccination site. As such, less walk-ins can be accommodated.

They therefore encourage all eligible citizens to register on the EVDS so they can get their second SMS and be assured of being vaccinated on a specific day.

On Friday, 4 June 2021, Overstrand Municipality received R600 000 from the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, to improve, amongst others, the surface of the Kleinmond Netball facility.

According to Ward 9 Councillor, Grant Cohen, the municipality has been in desperate need of replacing the surface of its courts, and through this funding, upgrades to the existing courts is expected to start in the new financial year (from July 2021 onwards).

There is also an additional amount of funding in the Ward 9 Ward Specific project list which will also be used for an upgrade of the current clubhouse/changeroom facility.

Cllr Cohen said the municipality is thrilled to have received funding that would mean upgrades to the facilities, which will be carried out in time for the 2023 Netball World Cup, as this funding forms part of the Provincial Legacy project that is underway in the Western Cape. He emphasised that this also would not have been possible without the hard work of the Overberg Netball Federation as well as the Kleinmond Netball club themselves.
