We are receiving complaints from residents that water tankers are not stationed at halls at all the times and that JoJo tanks are empty when they get there.

Please be advised that when JoJo tanks need to be filled, they are dependent on the water truck having to fetch water in Stanford.

The water trucks which are stationed at various points, also need to fetch water in Stanford.

You are kindly requested to be patient and remember to bring your own containers.

Greater Hermanus and Kleinmond water reservoirs are currently critically low to empty following the long-weekend’s heavy rains and damage to the water networks at De Bos dam and Palmiet Pump Station.

It seems that after the request to use water sparingly, the opposite was done in many cases to store water for today which has depleted the stored amount.

All hands-on deck and teams are on site to resolve the water supply as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.

The Municipality is providing water tankers in the various suburbs and locations will be given through once received.

Both areas’ main water supply is running dry, making water shortage a real threat.

The only way we can avoid Day Zero is if all residents and visitors join in the savings drive and immediately reduce their consumption.

  • Water may only be used for cooking and bathing
  • Only flush toilets when necessary
  • Refrain from using automatic washing machines

Overstrand Municipality is appealing to Kleinmond residents to urgently reduce water usage as the Palmiet River Raw Water Pump Station is currently not functioning due to flood damage.

Maintenance staff is attending to the problem despite difficult access.

Currently, the reservoir levels should last for two days if residents use water sparingly.

In view of the above, the Municipal Manager, in consultation with the Executive Mayor, has decided to institute immediate water restrictions.

Water may only be used for cooking and bathing. Only flush toilets when necessary and refrain from using automatic washing machines.
