On Friday, 5 April, Whale Coast Mall in Hermanus is celebrating the release of Christiaan Olwagen's film version of 'DIE SEEMEEU' at Whale Coast Theatre.
Filming took place in the Stanford and Hermanus region in 2017 and the producers decided to celebrate the first day of national release in the Hermanus area. Therefore, the producers decided that it would make sense to celebrate the first day of national release in the Hermanus area.
Christiaan Olwagen (Johnny is nie dood nie, Kanarie) adapts the classic play, ‘The Seagull’, by Anton Chekhov, to film and places it in South Africa in the 1990’s, almost one hundred years after it was written.
Performed in Afrikaans, with English subtitles, the characters are easily recognised, yet appear as if they were written for this new setting.
