The walkway across the Kleinmond lagoon, also referred to as the 2nd bridge, is closed to the public because it is unsafe.
The wooden bridge, standing fixed just a few feet above the ground are well-used by hikers enjoying fine views.
To date, the contractor assigned to repair the bridge has failed to start with the repair to the vertical and horizontal supports of the bridge.
Due processes need to be followed to cancel the original order. The contract needs to be re-advertised before a new contractor can be appointed.
Although every effort will be made to fix the bridge before the Easter weekend, the municipality cannot commit to a timeframe.
