A gathering on Thursday evening, 7 March 2019 in the Overstrand Banqueting Hall in Hermanus, marked the graduation ceremony of officials from various municipalities across the Province - including Overstrand, Theewaterskloof and Cape Aghulhas - on successfully complete a course in Integrated Community Development Planning.

This training course is aimed at establishing participatory democracy to enhance public participation in municipalities. It also seeks to ensure that public participation is firmly entrenched and institutionalised within municipalities.
Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dudley Coetzee congratulated the graduands and commended them for the effort they put in to strive for success. He also thanked the Public Participation Directorate, who appointed Stellenbosch University to conduct and facilitate this accredited NQF level 8 course, for the role played in the continued

Overstrand Law Enforcement and Task Team recently conducted various operations in and around the Overstrand to clear away bedding and other possessions belonging to homeless people from parks, cliffs along the coastline and in the mountain.

They also remove homeless people almost on a daily basis from parks, but the homeless people sleeping in parks or on streets find their way back to the same areas as they do not have anywhere to go.

Law Enforcement officers also patrol the cliff paths on regular intervals to maintain visibility.

A group of 43 municipal officials received certificates for attending a 5-day peace officer training course during February.

This course is an outreach program of the Municipality’s Protection Services Directorate, in conjunction with the Western Cape Department of Community Safety, to improve the knowledge and understanding of the role and functions of a Peace Officer. The invitation was also extended to colleagues from Infrastructure and Planning and Community Services Directorates.
