South African Weather Services (SAWS) issued a WEATHER WARNING for the Overberg District on Friday, 21 June 2019.

Lester Smith, Senior Manager: Fire and Rescue, Disaster Management and Security Services says its disaster risk management teams are on standby to assist with reported incident relating to the rainy weather in the area.

Children from Ward 6 (Zwelihle North) will enjoy playing on the newly installed playground equipment.

The playground, situated between Nxumalo Street and Swartdam Road in Zwelihle, includes a concrete climbing wall as well as a wooden jungle gym and artificial grass.

The play park was funded from money allocated to ward specific projects. Each ward is provided with a budget of R500 000 per financial year for allocation to ward projects and suggestions received from residents.

Playpark equipment is a vital part of childhood that helps children develop physical strength and co-ordination. It also provides opportunities for children to learn and develop.

The non-traditional concrete climbing wall will keep them entertained for hours and also practice their balancing.

Since March 2019, more than 200 turtle hatchlings have been taken to the turtle rehabilitation centre at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town, after being rescued by vigilant members of the public.

The rehabilitation centre has been able to save most of them, but sadly, not all of the hatchlings survived.

Vital information about the species is gathered during the rescue and rehabilitation process, along with further insight into the ingestion of small pieces of plastic, including balloons.

Sea turtles are at special risk because balloons are mistaken for their favourite food (jellyfish) when floating in the water. Not able to digest the balloon, it will clog the turtle’s stomach and the animal will eventually die of starvation.

Parking management operations resumed in Hermanus CBD on Thursday morning, 21 May 2019, after a few weeks of free parking.

Typically, the parking tariffs are R1 for 15 minutes, R2 for 30 minutes (or part thereof) and R4 per hour on Mondays to Fridays between the hours of 08:30 and 16:00. On Saturdays they work from 08:30 – 13:00. Parking will be free of charge on Sundays and public holidays.

The parking attendants are dressed in black, wear yellow safety bibs and all have electronic machines that print a slip depicting the time spent and paid for.

In the evenings and on Sundays/public holidays when there are no parking attendants, fees do not apply. You do not have to pay local car guards (dressed in green, orange or yellow fluorescent safety vests) but can tip them for the time spent watching your car.
