The Western Cape is bringing online more vaccination sites on a weekly basis. This is linked to the supply of vaccines, with deliveries expected on a weekly basis.

The Department of Health kindly asks that you wait for your second SMS before going to a site so that long queues can be prevented and ensure a Covid-19 safe process.

If you do decide to go to a vaccination site without an appointment, they cannot guarantee that you will get a vaccine as those with appointments will be prioritised.

Herewith a list of vaccination sites within our area.  The Department of Health will keep you updated on a weekly basis

As more vaccines arrive in the province, the Western Cape will be able to open more sites and vaccinate more people, this is part of our scale-up approach.

We understand that people who are registered are determined to get vaccinated as soon as possible but we have only received a limited number of vaccines and therefore are only able to vaccinate a limited number of people.

For this week the Overberg has received a total on 2586 vaccines and expects to receive a further 3120 vaccines on Thursday.

We ask that the public remain patient while more vaccination sites come online and we receive more vaccines in the coming weeks.

Yesterday, a male juvenile humpback whale washed out on the rocky shores of Onrus. The animal had clearly been dead for a few days, as most of the skin was already gone (hence the dominating white colour, which is blubber). This male had some scarring of cookiecutter sharks as well as from rolling in the rocks; no clear signs of the cause of mortality could be detected.

As the tide was coming in, only basic samples were taken including skin, blubber and some barnacles as well as whale lice. Unfortunately, due to the position of the whale, we were unable to collect baleen, which could provide us with a ton of information on the whales' recent movement patterns, foraging ecology and hormone levels. This baleen might still wash out in the next few days, so if someone were to find it, please contact us!
