Work is progressing well on repairs to the Kleinmond Transfer Station and the facility should be fully operational by the end of the year.

Municipal infrastructure, including the transfer station, was damaged and partly destroyed during violent protest in Kleinmond at the beginning of September 2017.

Anticipated completion of repairs of the main building and access control office will be at the end of October.

Repair work to the damaged wooden retaining poles at the Garden Waste drop-off area will start later this week. The wooden pole retaining structure is going to be replaced with a concrete retaining block structure.

If all goes according to plan, this section of the work would be finished before the end of the year.

On Thursday evening, 3 October, Mayor Dudley Coetzee hosted Overstrand’s annual Mayoral Awards Ceremony to honour those very special men and women of the community who, despite leading very busy lives, perform extraordinary deeds of kindness.

Through these actions they have done much to uplift and empower the residents of their respective communities.

Category winners:

The Mayoral Trophy for the Woman of the Year went to Jami Kastner (Butterfly Centre), the Achievers of Excellent went Jorika Rabie (Purple Angels) and Natasha Bruiners (Catapult Foundation), the Environmental Conservation went to Sean Privett (Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy), the Entrepreneurial Achievement went to Di Rattle (Hermanus Breweries, Old Harbour beer), the Tourism Development went to Peter Kastner (Stanford Hills Estate) and the Junior Achiever went to Izaan Newman Gansbaai Academia.

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dudley Coetzee, was a guest at last week's monthly Hermanus Business Chamber meeting where he met entrepreneurs from Zwelihle who are part of a mentoring project.

Growing a business is never easy and mentoring gives small businesses an edge to improve skills that can be used to grow one’s business.

Overstrand Municipality honoured the commitment of 41 staff members who had served the municipality for 10 to 35 years at a recent council meeting held in Hermanus on Wednesday, 28 August 2019.

Caswell Bhala of the Electrical Department has provided 35 years’ distinguished service to the Hermanus Administration and Ntuzana Matakata (Hermanus) received his 30 years’ service certificate. 

Kleinmond colleagues Venda de Jager, Merle Solomons , Charmaine Erasmus, Jannie Rex and Annelize Visser (Hermanus) have 25 years of long service under the belt.

Mayor Coetzee said it is an honour to award certificates in recognition of many years of service.  He thanked the staff for their valued contribution.
