In terms of the Overstrand Municipality’s Property Rates Policy all applications for rates rebate must be received by the Municipality before 30 September 2023.

Applications will be processed between July and September 2023 and if successful, the rebates will be applicable with effect from July 2023.

All unsuccessful applicants will be informed in writing of the outcome in due course but no later than 31 October 2023.

Rubbish is being dumped illegally and regularly in many areas around Overstrand, making it difficult for municipal workers to keep up with maintaining a clean town.

They clean every day, but when they return the next day, the rubbish is back in the same place.

The situation has become worse with some vagrants leaving rubbish and paper wherever they go.

Please do not throw litter in the street, use the bins.

Let’s claim responsibility and do our bit towards a cleaner town.

Overstrand Municipality is in the process of replacing some streetlights with more energy efficient LED LIGHTS (energy saving streetlights) in Kleinmond, Hawston, Hermanus, Stanford and Gansbaai.

Approximately 836 LED streetlights have already been installed to date.

This project is funded by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy and targets electricity reduction within the municipal operations, focused on retrofitting existing streetlights, traffic lights and building lights to energy saving devices.

A grant of R3 million was received for the 2022/23 financial year.

With LED technology up to 62% savings in energy consumption can be achieved.
