The new proposed taxation rates on property have been tabled to Council by the Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, at their meeting on 29 March 2023.

Taxpayers will now be able to do their own calculations in this regard. This calculator will be on the municipal website as well.

In terms of the MPRA, property rates are calculated on the value of the land and of any improvements or buildings.

This value is based on the property’s market value - the price you would realistically get for a property in the open market, between a willing buyer and a willing seller.

Property Rates are levied as a cent in the Rand based on the market value of the property as reflected in the valuation roll.

Overstrand Traffic Services in Hermanus is open this Saturday, 1 April 2023, from 08:30 to 12:00 if there is no load shedding on Saturday morning.

This is not an April Fools' joke!

Open during the week:

The traffic offices in Hermanus will be open Mondays - Fridays from 08:00 - 15:15 and alternative Saturdays from 08:30 until 12:00.

The traffic offices in Kleinmond and Gansbaai will be open Mondays - Fridays from 08:00 - 15:15 with a lunch break between 13:00 - 13:45.

As the winners of the National Arbor City Awards for local municipalities, Overstrand Municipality welcomed the Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Makhotso Sotyu, and dignitaries from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and  Institute of Environment and Recreation Management (IERM) in Hermanus to celebrate International Day of the Forests last week.

Also in attendance were Cllr Ronald Nutt, Overstrand Mayco Member of Community Services, Ward 2 Councillor for Gansbaai and Masakhane, Ald Theodorah Nqinata, the Deputy Director of Community Services, Theo Steenberg and other municipal officials as well as Overberg District Municipality Councillors Archie Klaas and Michelle Sapepa.
